Because stainless steel elbows contain more than 12% chromium, they are easily oxidized into Cr2O3 in contact with the atmosphere, generating large inclusions >80μm, which seriously affects the surface quality of the continuous casting billet. Therefore, the protective casting process of stainless steel elbows is one of the key factors that determine the surface quality of the cast slab and the finished product.
